Holmes County Habitat for Humanity works with the local community to build simple, decent homes for hardworking deserving families, Nineteen homes have been build in our county and through our tithe, more than ten homes have been built in Honduras. Since hundreds of families in our community are still need in need of affordable housing, our work continues.
Area churches have been one of the many important partners in our ministry. With rising demand for affordable housing in front of us, we want to reach out to more of the faith community for support through the Apostles Build program. Habitat for Humanity is a servant of the church providing a concrete opportunity for people to put faith into action.
What is an Apostles Build?
This type of build is a partnership that allows twelve individual churches to join together and fully fund and build a house for a local family. As Jesus' original apostles were charged with spreading the word about Jesus, our twelve apostles are charged with assisting in Habitat's mission to provide decent shelter for God's children.
How Will it Work?
Each "apostle" will be responsible 1/12 of the cost of the home and 1/12 of the volunteer labor. It's that simple. You will need to raise a little money, recruit two dozen volunteers, and provide a liaison as a contact person and you'll be ready. The liaison will work alongside our Construction Supervisor to see that this experience is full of joy and blessings for everyone involved.
What are the Responsibilities?
Here's a brief list of what each "apostle" will be responsible for:
- Provide someone to serve as liaison between your church and Holmes County Habitat.
- Select a coordinator for volunteers, lunches, fundraiser's, events within your church.
- Provide volunteers for each Saturday workday
- Provide lunch at the work site on some workdays
- Raise $4,500
- Promote the build with in your congregation. (bulletins, bulletin boards, etc.)
- Encourage your members to attend ceremonies at the work site. (Groundbreaking and the Dedication of the Home.)
What Will Habitat Provide?
We will provide the building site, house plan, and a carefully screened partner family to work with you. Our Construction Supervisor will order all materials, have them on site, and will schedule all sub-contractors and inspections. We will provide construction expertise and leadership to support your congregation. Other details can be found on the Apostle's Build Fact Sheet.
Benefits of a Partnership
There are numerous benefits to this partnership. Here are three:
- It offers people a way to share God's love and leads people to grow in their faith.
- It can often attract new members and involve inactive members by providing an opportunity to see tangible results of their efforts as they work side by side.
- It gives a chance to participate in a ministry of service that has a beginning and an end.
